He went on to specialise in Obstetrics and Gynaecology through the University of Cape Town, completing his Master of Medicine (MMed) degree and obtaining his Fellowship from the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of South Africa (FCOG) in 2023. His registrar training took place at Groote Schuur Hospital, Mowbray Maternity Hospital, and New Somerset Hospital, where he was exposed to a wide range of clinical presentations and sharpened his diagnostic and surgical skills.

What draws Dr Hlako to Obstetrics and Gynaecology is its unique blend of challenge and hope. While the speciality can be physically demanding, he finds deep fulfilment in helping patients through some of life’s most significant moments—from supporting healthy pregnancies and managing complications to safely delivering babies. “Some days I feel tired,” he says, “but the moment you help bring a new life into the world, your spirit lifts. It’s a privilege and a joy.”

Outside of medicine, he is a devoted husband and father of three. He enjoys hiking, travelling, and immersing himself in new cultures. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he is especially passionate about football. Dr Hlako is excited to bring his experience and energy to Mediclinic Louis Leipoldt. He looks forward to collaborating with a multidisciplinary team and contributing to the hospital’s tradition of clinical excellence and compassionate care.
